Verite, a consultation firm specializing in helping businesses analyze their supply chains to ensure good labor practices, recently featured Free the Slaves on their website. Verite.org is a great place to start learning how the products we consume every day could be connected to exploitation and slavery. In the website’s “Commodities” section, you can click on the image of a product—bricks, cattle, charcoal, fish, coltan, tungsten and tin, for instance—to get a big picture analysis of where it comes from, and whether there is evidence of forced labor behind that commodity.
Free the Slaves research is cited in a few places on the site. Our investigation into slavery in the mining industry of the Democratic Republic of Congo shows up in Vertite’s analysis of coltan, tungsten and tin. And, our research on slavery in India’s stone quarries—as well as our documentary on the subject, ‘The Silent Revolution‘ (shown above)—is featured in Verite’s analysis of granite.
