On this World Day Against Trafficking In Persons, you might be wondering if there’s anything you can do to end modern slavery. Turns out, as a Free the Slaves supporter you’re already doing a lot!

The Free the Slaves rescue boat in Ghana liberates 15 children from fishing slavery at a time on Lake Volta. Survivors go to specialized shelters for medical care, psychological counseling and catch-up schooling. They are free to be children once again.

Social mapping in the Dominican Republic helps residents identify the most vulnerable villagers to trafficking, and why they are at risk. This begins the process of building a slavery-free and slavery-resistant community for everyone.

In Haiti, adults who endured slavery as child domestic servants now distribute awareness-raising brochures and spot cases of child slavery to report to authorities. This year, the survivors have talked to 7,500 people and identified 35 children who need help.

The Free the Slaves Village Savings and Loan Associations in Ghana, Haiti and the Congo have helped aspiring entrepreneurs escape precarious financial situations and build financial self-sufficiency. This makes families slavery-proof.

Free the Slaves helps survivors in India to get government-issued “bonded labor release certificates.” They’re tickets to lifelong freedom because they entitle trafficked persons to generous crime victim benefits that get them back on their feet financially.

Thank you for all that you do. And we’d like to remind you if you haven’t had a chance this summer to renew or increase your support of this trailblazing frontline anti-trafficking work, that you can double your impact during our Doubling Down on Freedom Campaign. A generous foundation is matching all contributions to Free the Slaves up to $100,000.

Can you help end the conditions that cause modern slavery?
