People ask me all the time: “What is the single most important thing a person can do to help people escape or avoid modern-day slavery?” The answer is simple. It’s one word. Donate.

That’s especially true right now, as we conclude National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month in the U.S. Your ongoing contributions to Free the Slaves make a powerful statement about the strength of the anti-slavery movement. And your gift will make the difference between slavery and freedom for thousands around the globe.

We use your donation to reach highly vulnerable villages in rural areas where slavery is worst. Working in partnership with local community groups, we identify why certain people are easy prey for traffickers. Your gift will help individuals, families, neighborhoods and local organizations fix these problems. You can educate victims and the vulnerable about their rights, help them break free, and help them stay free.

We have created a short animated video that explains how you are connected to slavery and how the Free the Slaves formula for freedom liberates slaves and ends slavery.

January is almost over, so I hope you will take an opportunity now to renew or increase your support of the remarkable work done by our courageous activists on the front lines of slavery. If you make a one-time donation of $25 or more this month you will receive a Free the Slaves sticker.

I will stay in touch throughout the year with ideas for activism and reports about the impact your contributions are making. We have created a special Take Action section on our website as a ready reference if you would like to host a house party to raise awareness, or engage the faithful in your congregation, or educate fellow classmates at your school, or buy gifts that spread freedom.

Thanks to you and the many Free the Slaves supporters who have made this year’s anti-trafficking month campaign a resounding success.

Can you help end the conditions that cause modern slavery?
