As we enter Father’s Day weekend, I am reminded of the many fathers I have met in communities plagued by modern slavery around the world.
“My father was a slave,” one man told me. “I was born a slave,” he continued. “I don’t want my children to be slaves,” he concluded.
That determination, to stop slavery now, in our generation, once and for all, shapes the mission of Free the Slaves. All parents want their children to lead better lives than they have had. Our goal is to make that possible.
Modern slavery is a barrier that limits education, health care, gender equality, economic development and civic participation in a community. Eradicating slavery makes it possible for a community to flourish. Progress becomes possible when slavery ends. It starts with freedom.
I hope you will consider making a special contribution to Free the Slaves in honor of your father, to assist all the fathers we work with to build better futures for their children.
Thank you for your continued support.
