Over the past year, Free the Slaves has been researching the extent of slavery in the mines in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Our teams have discovered multiple instances of slavery here—including sexual slavery, peonage, child soldiering, forced marriage and debt bondage.

In our action report last July, released around the same time as the passage of the Conflict Minerals Act, Free the Slaves stated that even if the DRC military conflict were resolved, slavery itself must end for lasting peace. We hope that the implementation of this act will include efforts to eradicate slavery in the supply chains of Congo minerals.

Take action! Sign the petition demanding the SEC ensure the monitoring of slavery in Congo mines!
