It’s a strange combination at first: avant-garde-ish rap/pop star Kanye West, and Cassius Marcellus Cornelius Clay, a 20 year old, blue blooded Yale student with a penchant for cravats and bow ties.
But there are reports that Mr. Clay—whose ancestor was THE Cassius Marcellus Clay, 19th century American abolitionist—and Mr. West hit it off during a chance meeting at Barneys in New York. So much so, that Kanye has brought Cassius on as his personal advisor. Alex Klein of the website IvyGate.com has a feature write-up on this relationship. It turns out that Kanye has asked Cassius “to drop out of Yale and become part of his inner posse, traveling around with him for the rest of the year, helping him through his life’s lowpoint.”
Kanye seeks Cassius’ advise, it is reported, on topics ranging from fashion to public relations. Will Mr. Clay follow in his name-sake’s footsteps, and make the eradication of slavery a priority in his professional life? We will have to wait and see.
