I Am The Change - Hannah Frank

Hannah Frank is a little crazy – in a wonderful way. On the first day of her summer vacation 16-year-old Hannah Frank asked herself a question, ‘What can I do this summer to end slavery?’ Clearly Hannah knows how to dream big, though she acts as though it’s a  no-brainer: “Of course one person can change the world, seriously!”

She made lists and lists of possibilities. Benefit concert kept popping up on those lists.

Hannah took it as a sign and went to work. Just about everyone around her in Cincinnati, Ohio joined her cause. Within a month Hannah and company had rounded up three bands, learned how to publicize the event and ask for donations, found a use for the new building just built by Hannah’s church and even managed to set up a café for the concert.

Free the Slaves board member and former child slave Jean-Robert Cadet spoke at the concert. Hannah says concertgoers were moved to hear about slavery from a former slave.

Hannah’s summer adventure raised $500 to help free slaves around the world. FTS was honored to be the recipient of Hannah’s efforts. Hannah says she chose FTS because she thinks the organization has heart. ‘Heart’ is a concept that Hannah knows well. In addition to raising money to help free people from slavery, Hannah volunteers at her school for programs that bring art to inner-city students and language lessons to new English speakers.

She says, “It really just takes heart and hope for the world and that will change the world.” Who says kids these days are cynical?

P.S. Hannah wants you to know that her mom and friends Jason Emert and Alex Bain did a lot of work on the concert.  Free the Slaves sends a big ‘thank you’ to Hannah, Mrs. Frank, Jason, Alex and everyone who helped both raise awareness in Cincinnati and make the difference between slavery and freedom for people around the globe!
